[SPOILER] Tasha Yar [message #93297] Do, 28 Juli 2005 18:57

Hi,

I searched everwhere and it seems I didn't found the answer. Why Tasha
Yar quit ST TNG after season 1. I know she was killed by a strange
character. But in reality : Denise Crosby chose to quit ? she was fired
? why ?

And in the same way, why did Beverly Crusher qui for 1 season ?

Thank you for your answer.

My understanding is that Crosby quit because she felt her character was
being poorly developed and utilized. (The Tasha character had great
potential, but was kind of dippy in how she was used).

McFadden was asked to leave because the produces felt her character was
unpopular and was being poorly developed and utilized. (An early
example of the producers being out of touch with the fan base --
although I think Dr. Pulaski had an interesting potential too.
Certainly she was more of a spiritual successor to Dr. McCoy)

In both cases the actors came back for better developed and utilized
characters.

The nude poses by Crosby were in Playboy and were published almost 10
years before TNG started. By that time it was old news. Similarly, no
one cared (from a producers perspective) about the nude scenes Marina
Sirtis did in the Wicked Lady -- again pre-Star Trek.

According to the reference books I have, they claim it was due to lack of
character development.

Neither should they care. Why on earth are people so terrified of the human
body? I'm reminded of the mighty argument that broke out on the nitpickers'
website over that tame bath scene in Insurrection. I find it odd that there
are so many prudes among the fanbase of a show that was (for the 1960s) so
libidinous. Talking of which, I wonder if Deela got pregnant? :)

....until the movies became the Picard and That Sodding Android Show. How
many lines did Crusher have in Nemesis? About eight was it? I daresay there
was no space for her character, what with the importance of including
Spiner's tiresome Forrest Gumpdroid and all.

~sigh~

Character development my ass. She thought she had a future in movies, and
that her great talent was being wasted on mere television.

She made Pet Sematary, and then it was pretty much phffffffft. Turned out
she wasn't all that great a talent, isn't a particularly beautiful woman (at
least not by Hollywood standards), and gave up the steadiest paycheck she
was ever going to see.

Well, that was the intention. It was even necessary. The reason why they
captured the Enterprise was procreation.
I assume they didn't use birth control and that she was ready for a child.
Plus I like the idea of a little Kirk moving really fast. ;-)

Or of the nudes that Terry Farrell posed for before being cast as Jadzia
Dax.

It seems to me that she appeared in the May, 1988 issue of Playboy. This
would mean that the shots were published 1 year after TNG started, not 10
years before.

The difference between a whore and an actress is a camera.

I heard that gates left because someone was trying the casting couch
routine.. Roddenberry found out halfway through filming S2 and fired the
person, inviting gates back with a substantial raise
